Description:

Species Description - Plants epiphytic; fronds pendent, indeterminate, rhizome short-creeping, dorsiventral, with ventral loot insertion, scaly, the scales 1.5-2 x 0.1-0.2 mm, lanceolate, the apex short-attenuate, clathrate, blackish, ciliate, the cilia simple, present on scale margins and apex (apical cilia sometimes furcate); petiole 1-3 x 0.3 mm, dark brown, terete, glabrescent, the hairs 0.1-0.2 mm long, spreading, entire or 1-furcate, 1- to 3-celled, whitish; lamina 15-30 cm long, oblanceolate, membranaceous, deeply pinnatisect, 25-35(-40) pairs of segments, abruptly reduced at the base, with 2-3 segments shorter than the medial ones, the lowermost not auriculiform and not decurrent onto petiole base, broadest above the base, not showing periodic constrictions, the apex abruptly reduced, pinnatifid, not ending in a conform or subconform segment; rachis slightly flexuous (sometimes strongly flexuous at the lamina apex), with dark sclerenchyma visible on both sides, pubescent on both sides, the hairs 0.1-0.2 mm long, simple to 1- to 2-furcate, 1- to 3(-4)-celled, whitish; segments ca. 15-20 x 2-3(-4) mm, plane to slightly folded, set 40-50° to rachis, symmetric at the base (slightly constricted just above), decurrent on both sides, sometimes slightly cuneate acroscopically, the base attached obliquely on the rachis (i.e., the basiscopic side attaches on the abaxial side, and the acroscopic side on the adaxial side), not lobulate or overlapping the base of the next segment, the apex obtuse, the margin entire, slightly sinuate, glabrescent, the hairs 0.1 mm long, 1-furcate, abaxial lamina surface glabrescent, the hairs similar to those of the rachis abaxially, adaxial lamina surface glabrous; sinuses about the same size or twice as broad as the segments; venation pinnate, with 8-15 pairs of veins per segment; costae with blackish sclerenchyma obscured by laminar tissue on both sides, sparsely pubescent abaxially, the hairs similar to those of the rachis abaxially, glabrous adaxially; veins simple, without blackish sclerenchyma, ending in hydathodes that lack calcareous deposits; sori medial, rounded, not protruding beyond the costa and margin, 8-14 pairs per segment, superficial to slightly sunken; sporangial capsules glabrous.

Discussion:

Lellingeria tmesipteris can be recognized by its deeply pinnatisect laminae; flexuous rachises; lanceolate, blackish, and ciliate rhizome scales; ascending segments; and the basal portion of the segments slightly constricted just above the base.

See comments under Lellingeria pseudocapillaris for comparisons with that species.
