A reduced and frequently otherwise differentiated leaf that is often associated with inflorescences and subtends the pedicels of flowers.
Notes:

In Lecythidaceae, bract refers to the very reduced, often scale-like, modified leaf at the base of the pedicel. In species of Gustavia sect. Grandibracteata the bracts are bigger than they are in other species of Lecythidaceae.
