Definition
A fleshy covering or appendage of a seed derived from the funicle.

Notes
The aril aids in dispersal by animals which either carry away the seed and eat the aril in another place or swallow the seed and aril, digest the aril, and pass the seed in another place. Compare with elaiosome and sarcotesta.
