Deciduous forest.

Description
Tree, 20 m x 30 cm. Bark nearly black, with horizontal lenticels, and vertical fissures, shedding in relatively thick plates. Leaves usually with a truncate base, the margins shorter and less jagged than in B. alleghaniensis, the secondary veins branching toward margin. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.

Short shoots appear to be shorter than those of B. allenghaniensis.
