Habitat
In well-drained soil in upland forest.

Description
Tree, ca. 18 x 35 cm. Bark fissured, dark brown or nearly black. Petiole and both sides of blade stellate-pubescent. Buds angular, pubescent. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.

Specimen Notes
Leaves less deeply lobed and more stellate trichomes on abaxial leaf blade surface than usually seen in Q. velutina. Angular bud and small bark plates similar to Q. velutina.
