Description
Species Description - Single-stemmed or clustered from a short caudex, 2–9 dm, puberulent under the heads, otherwise glabrous; lvs 3-nerved, somewhat basally disposed, the lower evidently petiolate, with broadly oblanceolate or spatulate to elliptic blade 5–15 × 1–3 cm, the others sessile and ± reduced upwards; internodes 5–12; heads 2–3.5 cm wide in fl, solitary on a terminal peduncle 1–3 dm; receptacular and invol bracts acute; 2n=18. Moist to wet places in woods, meadows, and along streams; Appalachian region from sw. Pa. to N.C. and Tenn. June–Aug.
