  Genus Description - Cal tubular, 4-cleft, most deeply on the lower side, the lobes shorter than the tube; cor very irregular, the tube dilated above, the upper lip laterally compressed, broad-based, narrowed to the summit, the lower lip about as long as the upper but notably wider, shortly 3-lobed; stamens 4, paired, ascending under the upper lip, included; pollen-sacs separate, one attached by its middle, the other suspended from its summit; stigma capitate; fr shorter than the cal, symmetrical, ellipsoid, loculicidal; hemiparasitic annuals with alternate lvs and small fls in dense terminal spikes. 25, mostly w.
