  Genus Description - Cal broadly tubular, the sharply pointed lobes equal or unequal; cor mostly shorter than the cal, 2-lipped, the upper lip entire, narrowly oblong, the lower larger, 3-lobed; stamens 4, short, included in the cor-tube, the lower pair slightly the longer, in some spp. without anthers; nutlets rounded above; herbs with small, red, pink or yellow fls in dense axillary clusters; bracteoles wanting. 100, mainly Eurasia.
