Description
Species Description - Stems slender, often 1 m, simple, with a few pairs of elongate, linear or narrowly lanceolate lvs separated by internodes 1–2 dm; umbels 1–4, terminal or subterminal, loosely few-fld; cor red to orange-red or reddish-purple, its lobes 9–12 mm; hoods 5–7 mm, much exceeding the gynostegium, the lateral margins with a small tooth below the middle; horns subulate, incurved; fr erect on deflexed pedicels. Swamps, bogs, and brackish marshes on the coastal plain; N.J. to Fla. and Tex. June, July.
