Family Description - Fls perfect, regular, hypogynous, 3–5-merous; sep valvate; pet distinct, convolute; stamens as many as and alternate with the pet, or more often twice as many; filaments distinct, the antesepalous ones with an adnate nectary-gland internally at base; carpels 2–5, united by a gynobasic style, the ovary deeply lobed into globular segments; ovules solitary in each locule, basal, erect or ascending, apotropous; fr separating into indehiscent mericarps; seeds with straight embryo, 2 large cotyledons, small radicle, and no endosperm; small annual herbs, producing mustard-oil, with alternate, exstipulate, pinnately parted or compound to dissected lvs and solitary fls on long axillary pedicels. 2/11, temp.
