  • Description

    Description - Leafy twigs with very short patent hairs intermixed with sparse distinctly longer hairs, below the scars of the stipules always longer hairs. Leaves elliptic to oblong, broadest in or mostly below the middle, 15-27(-56) cm long, 5.5-12(-18) cm broad, at the base emarginate to subcordate, sometimes obtuse, or occasionally acute; margin entire; secondary veins sometimes slightly impressed above, smaller veins slightly prominent to plane beneath, 20-28(-32) pairs of secondary veins; petioles 6-12 (-20) mm long; stipules 0.8-1.8 cm long, with short and distinctly longer hairs. Inflorescences subglobose; peduncle 2-10 mm long; receptacle not fovetae; staminate flowers numerous; perianth ca 1 mm high, with basally connate tepals; stamens (always?) 2; filaments 1.5-2.0 mm long, anthers 0.8-1.0 mm long and ca 0.5 mm broad, connectives narrow, sometimes apiculate; peltate bracts, partly long-stipitate.

  • Discussion

    This subspecies differs from subsp utile and subsp occidentale in the leaf base, which is usually emarginate to subcordate in subsp allenii, in the larger stamens, and in the presence of two stamens in the flowers.
