    Genus Description - Hypanthium narrowly campanulate, herbaceous; sep 5, erect; pet 5, spreading, linear or narrowly oblanceolate; stamens 10 or more, usually ca 20, scarcely exserted; carpels 5, distinct, with filiform style, capitate stigma, and few ovules; follicles soon rupturing the hypanthium, dehiscent ventrally and to some extent dorsally; seeds large, flattened; perennial rhizomatous herbs with subsessile, stipulate, trifoliolate lvs and a few terminal or subterminal, long-pedicellate, white or pale pink fls, the hypanthium often purple or red.
