    Species Description - Plants 2–4 dm; blades of basal lvs broadly round- ovate, 5–8 × 3–7 cm, obtuse to broadly rounded above, usually cordate or subcordate below; cauline lf sessile or subsessile near the middle of the stem, like the basal but smaller; pet sessile, 15–22 mm, with 7–9 veins, the outer pair of veins emitting numerous lateral branches; anthers reddish; staminodes white, 10–16 mm, evidently longer than the stamens, 3-parted for 4/5 or 9/10 their length, the segments knobbed at the tip; ovary greenish; 2n=32. Wet, calcareous soil in the mts.; Va. and W.Va. to n. Fla., and w. to Ark., s. Mo., and e. Tex.; reputedly in N.J. Sept., Oct.
