    Species Description - Shrub or small tree to 9 m; lvs broadly obovate to broadly elliptic or sometimes broadly ovate, 5–20 cm, acute or shortly acuminate, distantly toothed to entire, pale and ± stellate-tomentose beneath; racemes longer and more drooping than in no. 1 [Styrax americanus Lam.], with 5–20 fls; cal 4–5 mm, canescent; cor-lobes 15–22 mm; fr subglobose, 7–9 mm thick; 2n=32. Woods, often in drier sites than no. 1 [Styrax americanus Lam.]; Va. to c. Fla., w. to Ky., s. Ill., s. Mo., Ark., and e. Tex. Apr.
