Description
Family Description - Fls small, regular, hypogynous, perfect or often unisexual; perianth of 3–6 tepals, these ± evidently biseriate and differentiated into 2 or 3 imbricate sep and as many imbricate pet, or 3–4 and all about alike in a single series; stamens (2)3(4), alternate with the pet when the pet are differentiated from the sep; anthers becoming inverted in ontogeny, opening by longitudinal slits; pollen in tetrads; no nectary-disk; ovary superior, 2–9-locular, with a short, cleft style; ovules 1 per locule, basal-axile; fr a juicy or dry drupe with 2–9 stones; seeds with thin coat and straight, elongate, dicotyledonous embryo embedded in copious endosperm; small, evergreen, ericoid shrubs or shrublets; lvs small, alternate or subverticillate, simple, with a basal pulvinus, revolute, with a deep furrow beneath. 3/5.
