    Species Description - Perennial from a stout caudex; stems clustered, 1–2 dm, sparsely hairy; lvs linear-oblanceolate, 1–3 cm; with a few sharp teeth near the tip or entire; ± pubescent with 2–4-pronged hairs; mature racemes 4–10 cm, with strongly ascending pedicels 3–6 mm; pet 3–4 mm; frs 10–25 × 1 mm, hairy at least when young; seeds in 1 row; 2n=28, 40, 42, 56, 64. Limestone cliffs; Willoughby Mt., Vt.; n. Mich.; widespread in boreal Amer. and Siberia.
