Family Description - Fls perfect; sep 5; pet 5 or none; stamens (10–) numerous, with short filaments and introrse anthers; ovary (3)5-locular, with numerous ovules on axile (or distally intruded-parietal) placentas; style 2, subentire or branched above; fr a loculicidal capsule; seeds numerous, small, with a minute, dicotyledonous embryo and copious endosperm; perennial, insectivorous herbs with hollow, pitcher- shaped lvs and large, nodding fls solitary on a scape or in few-fld racemes. 3/15, New World.
