Description
Species Description - Shrub to 2(–3) m, much-branched above; lvs articulate at the base, linear to narrowly elliptic or commonly oblanceolate, 2–4(–5) cm × 5–8 mm; fls 7–many in a large, compound, dichasial cyme, 10–15 mm wide; styles 3(4), connate at the base and forming a beak on the fr; fr mostly 4.5–6 mm, to 3 mm thick, shallowly or obscurely sulcate, quasi- 3(4)-locular, the partitions meeting in the center but not joined. Wet meadows and moist bottomlands, less often on rocky slopes, coastal plain from N.J. to S.C., and in the mts. from sw. Pa. to n. Ga. and c. Ala. July–Sept.
