    Species Description - Monoecious; prostrate or decumbent, 2–6 dm; lvs long-petioled, obovate or elliptic, 1–4 cm, rounded above; infls axillary, the short axes thickened (to 1 mm) and indurate; bracts minute; sep of pistillate fls 5, spatulate, 2–2.5 mm; fr compressed-obovoid, 1.4–1.8 mm, papillate above the middle, coriaceous, indehiscent; seed broadly obovate, 1–1.4 mm. Native of tropical Amer., rarely found about seaports in our range.
