Family Description - Fls unisexual, regular, hypogynous, trimerous; sep 3 or 6; pet none, or represented by nectaries; stamens 3 or 6; ovaries 3, distinct; ovules numerous; mostly woody climbers with alternate, exstipulate, palmately compound lvs. 8/30.

Discussion
Akebia quinata (Houtt.) Decne., a native of e. Asia, sometimes escapes from cult. It is a high- climbing woody twiner, with 5 retuse lfls and fragrant, purplish-brown fls in small, axillary racemes, the lower pistillate, 2–3 cm wide, the upper staminate and smaller; 2n=32.
