Description
Description - Shrubs or trees, with opposite deciduous simple leaves, and very small, clustered, incomplete and commonly imperfect flowers axillary or on twigs of the previous season. Calyx-tube short, the limb deeply 4-6-lobed. Corolla none (rarely of 1 or 2 small petals). Stamens 2 or 4. Ovary 2-celled; stigmas thick, sometimes 2-lobed; ovules 2 in each cavity, pendulous. Drupe commonly 1-seeded. Endosperm fleshy. [Commemorates Charles Le Forestier, a French physician.] About 10 American species. Type species: Forestiera acuminata (Michx.) Poir.
