    Species Description - Much like C. virginiana, but the lvs 5-foliolate or biternate, lfls 3–6 cm, usually 3-lobed or entire; peduncles mostly 3.5–8 cm; sep linear to obovate; achenes reddish or purplish-brown to dark blackish-purple. Moist soil; Va. to Fla., w. to Ky. and Ark. July, Aug. (C. micrantha; C. ligusticifolia, a more western sp., the name sometimes misapplied here)
