Description
Description - Plants leafy, small to large, whitish green to brown, creeping, 1-3-pinnately branched, stolons lacking. Branches purely Frullania-type. Stems with a weakly differentiated cortex of thick-walled cells in 1-2 layers, sometimes with paraphyllia. Leaves succubous, alternate, densely hairy, deeply divided into 3-9 strongly ciliate segments. Cells narrowly elongate, with uniformly thickened walls, cuticle striate- papillose; oil bodies small, homogeneous. Underleaves similar to leaves but slightly smaller. Rhizoids lacking or very scarce, in tufts from bases of underleaves. Gametoecia on long shoots. Sporophyte surrounded by a fleshy perigynium (coelocaule) with or without a short perianth at tip. Seta of numerous rows of cells. Capsule ellipsoidal, wall 6-8-layered. Vegetative reproduction not observed.
