    Species Description - Leaves elliptic to lanceolate-elliptic, 3-7 cm wide; peduncles evenly pubescent at nodes and internodes; larger polyfollicles ovoid to subglobose, glabrous, rarely pubescent; follicles 21-26, these, when mature and open, with ovate to round locules (ex- cept sometimes at very base of polyfollicle); seeds 10-14 mm long, 9-11 mm wide

    Eponymy: Named after the Tarahumara Indians, who share the home range of this subspecies in the deep canyons of north- western Mexico

    Local names: "corpus" (Vazquez-G. et al. 5005), "magnolia" (fide Felger, 1971).
