Description
Latin Diagnosis - Fructus ovoidei vel subglobosi; folliculi 18-26, gla- bri; pedunculi pubescentes saltem in nodos; laminae late ellipticae, 4-10 cm latae; semina 8-9 mm longa, 7-8 mm lata.
Species Description - Leaves usually broadly elliptic to obovate, 4-10 cm wide; peduncles pubescent, especially at the nodes; larger polyfollicles narrowly oblongoid, glabrous, 18-25 follicles, these, when mature and open, with narrow locules much longer than wide; seeds 8-9 mm long, 7-8 mm wide.

Distribution
From Acaponeta, Nayarit, to the San Sebasti'an-Talpa de Allende-Cuale Range in southwestern Jalisco, from 750-1900 (2250?) m (Fig. 1). Usually on steep slopes and barrancas in pine-oak forest or mixed forest with temperate and subtropical elements, such as Styrax, Inga, Persea, Podocarpus, Distylium, Dioon, Abies, and Matudaea. Flowering from March to August; fruits dehiscing by March of the following year.
