    Latin Diagnosis - Herba, caulibus debilibus, subhexagonis, glabris vel ad nodos puberulis; foliorum lamina lanceolata, subacuminata, basi angustata, membranacea, integra vel undulata, untrinque glabra, costa et venis lateralibus obscuris; petioli glabri vel secus canales plus minusve puberuli; cymae axillares, solitariae vel binatae, pro parte maxima 2-3-ramosae, pedunculis parce puberulis; bracteae inflorescentiam cingentes subulatae; bracteae cymularum elliptico-ovatae, inferiores quam superiores aliquanto mi- nores ambae acuminatae, basi angustatae, virides, glabrae; bracteolae lanceolatae, parce pilosae; calycis segmenta lineari-lanceolata, puberula, albido-viridia; corolla pallide lilacina, glabra praeter partem mediam et labii paginam exteriorem, tubo cylindrico, labiis patentibus, labio superiore lanceolato, rotundato vel obtuso, labio inferiore oblongo, lobis parvis, rotundatis, pilosis; stamina exserta, filamentis planis, parce puberulis; antherae superpositae.

    Species Description - Low, weak herb 0.5 m high; stems creeping at base then becoming erect or ascending, subhexagonal, glabrous or the nodes puberulous with curved trichomes; leaf blades lanceolate, 8-9.5 cm long and 2-2.8 cm wide, subacuminate (the tip itself subobtuse), narrowed at base, membranous, entire or undulate, both surfaces glabrous or nearly so, the costa and lateral veins (5 or 6 pairs) rather obscure, the cystoliths prominent under a lens, straight or slightly curved; petioles 2-2.5 cm long, glabrous or the margins of the channel puberulous with curved trichomes cymes axillary, solitary or paired, mostly 2- or 3-branched, 1.5-2 cm long, the peduncles 5-16 mm long, sparingly puberulous with curved trichomes, the pair of bracts produced at the base of the cyme subulate, 7.5-9 mm long, 1.2 mm wide; cymule bracts elliptic-obovate, acuminate to subacuminate at tip, narrowed at base, membranous, glabrous, green with a whitish base, the veins coarsely reticulate, the posterior bract 15-16 mm long and 8.5-10 mm wide, the anterior 14 mm long and 8 mm wide, the margin glabrous; bracteoles lanceolate, 13 mm long, 2 mm wide, whitish-green, sparingly pilose; calyx whitish-green, 7 mm long, the segments linear-lanceolate, 5.5 mm long, 0.75 mm wide, puberulous and minutely gland-dotted, sparingly ciliate; corolla pale lilac, 2.2-2.5 cm long, glabrous except the medial portions and outer surface of the lips, these hirtellous, the trichomes spreading, the tube cylindrical, 10-1 1 mm long, 1.5 mm broad at base, the mouth 3 mm broad, the lips spreading, the upper lip lanceolate, 12-14 mm long and 3 mm wide, rounded or obtuse, the lower lip oblong, 12-14 mm long and 4 mm wide, 3-lobed at apex, the lobes about 0.5 mm long, rounded, pilose, the middle one 0.5 mm wide, the lateral ones slightly narrower; stamens exserted about 10 mm beyond the mouth of the corolla tube, the anther lobes superposed, 1 mm long and 0.5 mm broad, the filaments flattened, sparingly puberulous; pollen grain 3-colporate, subprolate 42 x 26 µm, each mesocolpium provided with 2 long, narrow colpoid streaks, exine rugulate, sexine punctigillate. Capsule not seen.

    TYPE: FRENCH GUIANA. Sommet Tabulaire, zone sud, 50 km SE of Saul, 630 m alt, 23 Aug 1980, J. J. de Granville 3567 (HOLOTYPE: US; ISOTYPE: P).

    Dicliptera granvillei is perhaps likewise nearest in relationship to D. ciliaris.

    Growing among rocks at edge of creek in submontane forest. Known only from the type locality.
