Discussion
The relationships of this species are clearly with S. martii and S. maguirei; the first of these is perhaps the nearest relative but it has pubescent ovaries and considerably larger leaflets. Swartzia maguirei has marginally pubescent ovaries, a condition suggestive of S. fimbriata, but the latter has only one ovary-suture pubescent. They can be distinguished by the externally sericeous petal of S. fimbriata, the differently shaped leaflets, and the geographic ranges, in addition to the difference in the distribution of the pubescence on the ovary.
