Discussion
The intramarginal nerve of the leaflets in this species links it with its nearest relatives S. iniridensis and S. floribunda. Of these the latter is perhaps the nearer; at least it has the glabrous gynoecium of S. buntingii. This new species differs from both its relatives in its foliaceous stipules and/ or its plane leaflets. The marginal vein common to all three is absent in S. pendula, another relative; this also has minute, appressed hairs whereas S. buntingii has several parts pilose. The specific name is given in honor of George S. Bunting who collected the paratypes with Maguire.
