    Description - Shrub or tree 1.5-10 m tall, the branchlets sparingly strigulose minutely or glabrous; stipules linear to linear-lanceolate, glabrous; leaves unifoliolate, the petioles glabrous or sparingly strigulose minutely, 3-9 mm long, stipellate apically, the stipels 1-2 mm long, subulate, the petiolules 1-4.5 mm long, glabrous, the blades glabrous or sparingly strigulose beneath, the base rounded and obtuse, the apex bluntly acute to acuminate; inflorescences axillary, the axes minutely strigulose, 2-8.5 cm long, the bracts deciduous to persistent, minutely strigulose externally, glabrous within, the bracteoles persistent to deciduous, minutely strigulose externally; pedicels more or less strigulose; calyx segments 3-5, persistent with the fruits, glabrous or more or less strigulose externally; petal white, glabrous or sparingly strigose externally, glabrous within, the blade broadly ovate, basally truncate to cordate, 16-20 mm long, 14-21 mm wide; larger stamens 3, glabrous, the filaments 15-22 mm long, the anthers ca 2.5 mm long and 1 mm wide, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, the connective prolonged in a mucro 0.4-0.5 mm long, the pollen globose, 34-36.5 p diameter, the smaller stamens glabrous, the filaments 5-13 mm long, the anthers narrowly ovate, mucronate, ca 1.5 mm long and 0.8 mm wide, the pollen globose, 36.5-39 p diameter; gynoecium glabrous, the stigma punctiform, the style 4.5-6 mm long, the ovary narrowly oblong-elliptic, 7-9.5 mm long, 3-4 mm wide, the gynophore 8-12 mm long; fruit oval in outline, 2-3.5 cm long (including the 5-7 mm long persistent style), 1-1.5 cm diameter, orange-colored, glabrous, the stipe 8-15 mm long; seed 1 per fruit.

    (Fig. 43). Riverine forest in southeastern Colombia, northwestern Guyana, southwestern Venezuela and in northwestern Brazil, 100-125 m alt.
