    Type collection. A. Ducke 17216 (lectotype US 1442538; isolectotypes BM, G, MG, P), Gurupá, Pará, Brazil, Aug. 8, 1918. Ducke originally cited several collections to represent this taxon and the one chosen here as lectotype was one of those. Had the Snethlage collection been available for study, it would have been the more logical choice but I have not been able to see it.

    Description - Stipules (1 -)2-2.5 mm long; leaves unifoliolate, rarely some leaves trifoliolate, the stipels 1-1.5 mm long; bracteoles 0.5-1 mm long; pedicels (9-)14-20 mm long, glabrous, the buds glabrous; gynophore 10-16 mm long, the carpophore 10-17 mm long.

    (Fig. 39). Restricted to the region around the mouth of the Amazon River, principally in secondary forests at low elevations, on land above seasonal flooding.
