Discussion
Swartzia cupavenensis differs from its relatives S. laevicarpa and S. fanshawei in the golden-sericeous character of most of its parts and the larger, oval buds; the smooth surface of the buds readily separates it from another, less closely, related species, S. benthamiana.

Distribution
Known certainly only from the type collection which was described by the collectors as occurring frequently in the forest along the small stream Caño Cupaven (the source of the specific epithet), at ca 125 m alt. The following collection almost surely belongs here but it is rather fragmentary: VENEZUELA. Amazonas: San Carlos, Río Negro, LI. Williams 14590 (G).
