    Type collection. A. Ducke 20359 (lectotype US; isolectotypes G, K, P, RB, S), near Falls in Rio Tarumá, Manáos, Amazonas, Brazil. A lectotype is needed because Ducke cited two collections in the original description without indicating a type.

  • Description

    Description - Basal pair of leaflets broadly ovate, 5-7 cm long, 2.5-4 cm wide, the upper pairs ovate-elliptic to elliptic, 7.5-10 cm long, 3.5-5 cm wide, the apices caudate-acuminate, the base of the lowest pairs rounded-obtuse to obtuse, the upper pairs subacute to acute; buds umbonate, 4.5-5 mm diameter; filaments of the larger stamens strigulose; fruits woody, laterally compressed, elliptic in cross-section and in outline, 4.5-5 cm long, 3 cm wide, minutely strigulose, lamellate, 1-seeded; seeds elliptic, ca 3.5 cm long and 2 cm wide, the seed coat pale tan-buff, shining, the aril ca 1.5 cm long.

  • Distribution

    (Fig. 25). Apparently restricted to the dense, primary, riverine forests in the vicinity of Manáos, Brazil, on non-inundated sandy soils at ca 25 m alt.
