Description
Species Description - Large tree, the branches unknown, the branchlets with grayish brown pubescence; the single leaf observed petiolate; petiole ca 32 mm long, 0.5 mm thick; lamina obovate-elliptic, 28 cm long, 10 cm wide, punctate, coriaceous, the midrib very prominent beneath, the nervation pinnate, slightly pubescent above, the margins entire, acuminate at apex. Inflorescence a paniculate dichasium ca 30 cm long, the branches and flowers subtended by ovate acuminate bracts; sepals 5 quincuncial, ovate, 8-12 mm long, 7-10 mm wide, coriaceous, pubescence yellowish brown, central nerve prominent; petals 5, imbricately contorted, asymmetrical, coriaceous along exposed side, the coriaceous part pubescent, 25 mm long, 6 mm wide, the membranaceous part glabrous, 40 mm long, 20 mm wide; stamens numerous, free, 2-3 seriate, forming a ring at the base; filaments long, slender, 10-12 mm long; anthers biloculate, dehiscent along a longitudinal lateral line, ca 6-8 mm long, 0.5-0.9 mm wide, caducous; pollen tricoporate, ca 30 µ in diameter, deltoid in a polar view, globose in an equatorial view; ovary globose to subglobose, pubescent, 6-8 mm in diameter, triloculate; style 18-20 mm long, erect to slightly geniculate when mature; stigma capitate, 1.5-3.0 mm in diameter, trilobate, depressed at center. Fruit not seen.

In this brief study no attempt has been made to compare the anatomical features of Haploclathra species with those of its closest relatives in the larger genus Caraipa.

Distribution. Brazilian Amazonia, on the Rio Uaupes at Taracua. Known only from type locality.
