Description
Genus Description - Coutoubea is a small assemblage of some five species or more chiefly annuals, and often somewhat weedy, characteristic of savanna or open sandy places from tropical Mexico to the Antilles, Ecuador, and central Brazil. Three species are apparently confined to Guayana: C. humilis Sandwith, perennial, ofthe eastem periphery, C. minor H.B.K., of Amazonian Venezuela and adjacent Colombia, and C. reflexa Benth., of general distribution in Guayana.

There do not seem to be especial taxonomic difficulties within the genus. Pollen normally are released as tetrahedral tetrads, type undesignated. Formation of decussate tetrads also is frequent in the several species
