Description
Genus Description - A widely distributed tropical genus of some 400 species, half of which is American. Well represented in Central America, the West Indies and the Andes. Reaches the U.S. Mostly found along the edge of forests, and along rivers, rarely in the jungle, never in the desert. Absent from the Guayana Highland proper but found in Guianas.
