  • Discussion

Type. BRAZIL. Roraima: Rio Anaua, afluente do Rio Branco, caatinga com Barcella; cipo; flores roseas; 30 Apr 1974, J. Murça-Pires, P. Cavalcante, H. Magnago & N. T. Silva 14491 (holotype IAN, isotype MO). This species is very disdnct in its lepidote calyx with glands, contracted blackdrying inflorescence, simple, pinnately veined, black-drying leaves, smah fruit without a prominent midrib, and smah seeds lacking hyaline-membranaceous wings. The inflorescence and flower are somewhat reminiscent of A. nigrescens but that species has totahy different 3-foliolate, dendroid pubescent leaves. Other simple-leaved species of Arrabidaea have the leaves pubescent or 3-veined or both. Arrabidaea pliciflora (Mart, ex DC.) Bur. & K. Schum. of Piauhy, Brazil may be its closest relative but differs in oblong leaves with the nerves puberulous below, narrow, elongate panicle, subtomentose calyx, and larger plicate corolla.
