Description
Genus Description - Inflorescence racemose, several-flowered; peduncles exceeding the leaves, bracteose; perianth 1-cyclic, members petaloid, basically 4, occasionally 5-6, stamens 1-cyclic, 10-20, introrse, filaments stout, produced from relatively massive cyclic primordia, anthers introrse, basifixed, 4-thecate, sagittate, at anthesis reflexed, dehiscent through upwardly directed caudal appendages; pollen (3-)4-5-colporate, sphaeroidal or oblate, sexine verruculate, ca 30-35 x 20-25 µ; ovary densely pubescent, 3(-4)-locular, placentation axial, ovules numerous; style simple, glabrous, truncately 3(-4)-lobed; seed compressed, oval in outline, irregularly scario-winged; embryo small, erect, embedded in copious endosperm. Herbaceous herbs with simple, branched, or dendroid stems; phyllodes present, often conspicuous; amphorae ventricose or essentially tubular.

Discussion
Type. Heliamphora nutans Bentham. Plants of often marshy or wet savanna-like places, confined to middle and upper altitudes on the Roraima Formation of the Guayana Highland. There are six species recognized herein.
