  Genus Description - Plants in loose, glossy, light- to yellowish-green mats. Stems simple or irregularly and sparingly branched. Leaves distant, stiffly erect-spreading and ± complanate, scarcely changed when dry, slightly concave, often asymmetric, oblong-lanceolate, oblong-ovate, or sometimes lingulate or cultriform, acute to obtuse; margins plane, serrate to sermlate in the upper half or more, sometimes entire below; costa 1/2 or more the leaf length, projecting at back as a small papilla; cells long-rectangular to long-hexagonal, smooth or nearly so but appearing minutely papillose because of thickened end walls; alar cells usually distinctly differentiated, quadrate to rectangular. Capsules cernuous, ellipsoidal to ovoid, contracted below the mouth when dry; exothecial cells thick-walled; operculum obliquely short-rostrate.

• Discussion

  The genus is presumably derived from Entodontopsis but has a different areolation and thick-walled exothecial cells. The name of the genus refers to leaves shaped like a ploughshare.
