Description
Species Description - Stems up to 2 cm long, (with leaves) 2-3.5 mm wide, subjulaceous to somewhat complanate-foliate. Leaves stiff, smooth, 1.5-2 mm long, 0.5-0.8 mm wide near the middle, oblong-lanceolate to oblong-ovate, sometimes lingulate, occasionally ± cultriform, obtuse or rarely broadly acute; margins plane, serrate to sermlate at the apex, sometimes sermlate below; costa ending at or somewhat above the leaf middle; cells 56-100 x 4-9 µm, shorter near the apex, smooth; alar cells quadrate to short-rectangular, sometimes oblate. Setae 7-13 mm long; capsules 1-1.5 mm long, cernuous, ellipsoidal to ovoid, contracted below the mouth when dry; operculum obliquely short-conic; exostome teeth up to 500 µm long. Spores 19-25 µm in longer diameter.

This is the only Mexican species with obtuse leaves.

Distribution
On trees or vines, up to 1200 m alt.; Nayarit, Puebla, Tabasco, Veracruz; reported from Campeche (Delgadillo & Cardenas, 1982, as Stereophyllum subobtusum).—Mexico; Central and South America; Africa and India.
