    Species Description - Herbs, 1-2 m tall. Leaves 20-30 X 4-6 cm; sheath reticulate. Inflorescences 13-27 X 3.5-4 cm, prostrate, with 1-3- flowered cincinni, 20-50 cm long. Flowers: calyx pinkish to red, tubular to turbinate, 5-6 mm long, the lobes caducous; corolla creamy yellow, 10-12 mm long; labellum spreading, yellow with darker yellow central part, 10-12 mm long and wide. Capsules maturing red, ellipsoid to globose, 12-14 X 10-11 mm, ca. 10-seeded. Seeds with bright-orange to yellow aril.

    Distribution and Ecology - Fl (Feb), fr (Jul, Aug); found in nonflooded forest at 200 to 400 m. Gingembre bois, gingembre sauvage.
