  Genus Description - Annuals. Inflorescence an open panicle. Spikelets many-flowered, strongly laterally compressed; glumes subequal, lanceolate, shorter than lowest florets, 1-veined, keeled, deciduous; florets strongly overlapping, ovate; lemmas 3-veined.
