  Genus Description - Annuals. Inflorescences of several to many, digitate to subdigitate, densely-flowered racemes, the racemes laterally flattened, with two rows of spikelets on one side. Spikelets strongly laterally compressed, several-flowered, awnless, disarticulating above the glumes and between the florets; glumes shorter than lowest floret, unequal, the lower 1-nerved, the upper 5-nerved; lemmas lanceolate, 3-nerved.
