Description
Species Description - Scandent plants climbing to at least 6 m above ground; major stems segmented into long, cane-like internodes separated by ca. 3, closely set, bladeless sheaths; leaves and solitary inflorescences on short, clustered branches arising from sheath axils distally on major stems. Leaves: blade ovate, with nearly centric apex, usually <3.5 cm wide, grayishgreen grayishgreen abaxially. Flowers dirty yellowish to brownish; outer caducous staminode purple. Fl (Mar, May); fairly common in dense primary forest on well-drained ground in small light gaps and along trails.
