    Genus Description - Rosulate herbs, usually medium-sized. Leaf blade conspicuously soft-textured; sheath flanks prematurely decaying to form a network of persistent fibers. Inflorescences with bracts placed on one side of rachis, the flower pairs ± distinctly pedunculate, at least in fruit. Flowers with moderately long and narrow corolla tube; outer staminodes paired; ovary with 1 fertile locule. Fruit 1-seeded.
