    Species Description - To 1.7 m tall. Leaves borne singly from a horizontal rhizome, juvenile ones with unpatterned blade; petiole winged for ca. 1/10 length. Inflorescences on separate, leafless shoots, to 25 cm long, the flower-bearing part of inflorescence 3-5 X 1.3-3 cm, the bracts reddish brown to purplish. Flowers: corolla cream; outer staminodes yellow, 20-23 X 10-14 mm.
