Description
Species Description - Herbs to ca. 2 m tall; aerial shoots forming dense clumps, with several leaves at base and a terminal inflorescence. Leaves: petiole winged for ca. 1/2 length; blade coriaceous, juvenile ones not patterned. Inflorescences with peduncle 0.5- 1 m long, the flower-bearing part of inflorescence turbinate, ca. 5-10 X 5-15 cm, the apical bracts sterile and spreading in an umbrella-like fashion, longer and narrower than fertile ones. Flowers: corolla ± cream, staminodes lavender to purplish.
Distribution and Ecology - Occasional in open areas in swamp forest.
