    Genus Description - Erect or trailing herbs or shrubs. Leaves pinnate; leaflets opposite, numerous; stipules peltate. Flowers small, in axillary or terminal racemes, bracteolate at base; bracts persistent; pedicels not jointed; calyx bell-shaped or bilabiate, with 5 unequal sepals; corolla yellow, red, or purple; stamens 10, diadelphous; ovary shortly stipitate, with few ovules, the style glabrous, the stigma capitate. Legume with 2 to many joints, flattened, indehiscent; seeds few, kidney-shaped, minute, dark brown or black.
