    Genus Description - Twining or creeping vines, seldom shrubs, usually producing abundant milky sap (at least in our species). Leaves simple, lobed, palmately or pinnately compound. Flowers bisexual, regular, produced in axillary, simple or compound dichasial cymes, or solitary; calyx of 5 equal or unequal sepals; corolla bell-shaped, funnel-shaped, or salverform, with entire or lobed margin; stamens 5, included or rarely exserted, the filaments usually unequal, the anthers lanceolate; ovary with 2-4 locules, the style single, the stigmas nearly globose. Fruit a 4-seeded, ovoid or globose, 4-valvate capsule; seeds 3-angled, glabrous or pubescent.

    Distribution and Ecology - A pantropical genus of about 500 species.
