Description
Genus Description - Erect or prostrate herbs, shrubs, or twining vines. Leaves entire or lobed. Flowers bisexual, regular, produced in axillary cymes; calyx of 5 equal or unequal sepals; corolla bell-shaped; stamens 5, the anthers sagittate; style 1, the stigmas 2, filiform. Fruit a 4- seeded capsule, 4-valvate but each valve spitting in two; seeds with 2 flattened sides and a convex one.
Distribution and Ecology - A genus of about 250 species, mostly from warm, temperate regions of the Old World, also from western North America and South America.
