  • Description

    Species Description - Tree to 25 m tall, with spreading, nearly horizontal, sympodial branches; bark light brown and smooth, inner bark yellowish. Leaf blades 3-6 x 1.2-3.2 cm, coriaceous, obovate to spatulate, lower surface with appressed, rusty-brown hairs, especially along main vein, foveate at vein axils, the apex rounded, obtuse, or retuse, often mucronate, the base cuneate, the margins entire; petioles 0.4-1 cm long. Hypanthium densely covered with rusty-brown hairs; calyx greenish, early deciduous, ca. 2 mm long; filaments 4-5 mm long, adnate to base of calyx; nectary disk covered with rusty-brown hairs. Drupe ellipsoid to ovoid, 2-2.5 cm long, turning from green to yellowish orange.

    Distribution and Ecology - Common in moist forests. Bordeaux (A4702). Also on Tortola; the West Indies and Panama to South America.
